The basics to productive promotion
As a small business it can seem difficult at times to let everyone know what you do and how you want to help them. Being in business is not always as lucrative as others may perceive it to be and most if not all small business people put in large hours and almost always seven (7) days a week.
The reality is that for every ten (10) dollars you earn, there is ten (10) other people with their hands out each wanting a slice of your ten (10) dollars. So there is not always enough left over to spend on fancy marketing campaigns, though you know marketing is crucial in growing your business.
Doing a search around the Internet there are so many people promising things to help grow your business that it’s near on impossible to know what is legit or rubbish. So I decided to put together this short post to show what I have learnt thus far.
- Be Searchable: When people search for a business there really is only one (1) place they go, yep! Google. So it makes good sense to ensure your business is listed with Google. Visit the Google My Business portal to learn how.
- A web Presence: the great thing about the Internet is that it gives small business a level playing field to compete with large multinational companies. However to compete efficiently you really do need a presentable website not just on a PC but yes you guessed it, a phone or tablet. Also great content as this helps you rate higher in Google and also gives your customers a reason to visit your site, not just once but to return over and over again. Remember the old days when it was important to have good word of mouth, well it is still very much a requirement today as it was back then, only now its spread differently.
- Social Connection: Social media has and continues to grow and is now the number one platform for reaching potential customers. The great thing about social media is that you can market your business to tens of thousands of people in your local area without spending a cent, other than the cost of your Internet and having a great looking advert to post.
- Presentation: We have all heard it said “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover” but guess what? We all do. So it’s very important to present your business in the best possible way to capture the interest of customers, this is achieved on your website and in your promotional material. I once was told that you could have the best product in the world, but if it looked bad, people would see it as being bad, however if you had the worst product in the world, yet you made it look good, people would perceive it to be good.
So, we now know what we need as far as the basics to marketing ourselves, the real challenge is how do you go about it? Well for some they could tackle these things on their own, however not everyone is a wizard on the computer, yet alone creating stuff. This is where I can help you. As an individual small business operator this is what I am good at, not being an accountant or a mechanic or cleaning homes etc. So while I need to come to you for these skills and many others, you can come to me for your promotional needs. To explore the possibilities please take the time to look around my website and if you have any questions contact me, I am always up for a chat.
